Original photographs and video can make an Alaska website unmistakably credible. But media is a production project with shot lists, releases, rights, editing, captions, crop requirements and technical delivery decisions. Scope it intentionally.
Create a useful shot list
Start with the pages and customer questions rather than a generic list of “epic Alaska landscapes.” A contractor needs evidence of workmanship and people in context; a lodge needs room details, guest arrival and actual experiences; an organization needs people, services and trustworthy operational imagery.
Plan horizontal, vertical and square framing so images work in hero sections, cards and mobile layouts. Obtain permission and releases where appropriate before publication.
Use motion where it earns the bandwidth
Video can explain a process or show an experience better than static imagery. It should not prevent someone from reading the primary page message, finding the phone number or completing a booking. Provide a useful static poster and keep essential content outside video.
For mobile, consider still images instead of a large background clip. Make captions available where speech or meaningful sound conveys information.
Budget production separately
Ask whether the proposal includes planning, crew, travel, weather contingency, filming, editing, color, licensed music, photo selection and export variants. These costs are not automatically included in website development.
Martin Media is a founding directory listing with particular emphasis on commercial video, photography and web development. That relationship is disclosed; compare its offering on scope, price and fit just as you would any proposal.
Build a reusable media library
Save descriptive filenames, shooting locations where appropriate, rights notes, optimized web exports and original high-resolution masters in the business's own storage. A media library that staff can actually search is often more valuable than a one-time hero video.
